The Members of our Jury: Thomas Loster

June 19, 2013

As a member of the GeoRisksResearch team at the Munich Reinsurance Company, Thomas Loster has been dealing with the statistical analysis of worldwide natural catastrophes for the past 16 years. The focus here was on weather risks and climate change and their future impact on living conditions.

Appointed chairman of the Munich Re Foundation in July 2004, Loster and the Foundation address challenges such as environmental and climate change, water as a resource and risk factor, population growth and disaster prevention. Educating people and building capacity is the motto with which potential is encouraged and awareness raised. The Foundation carries out research and education and offers support so that conditions for people, in developing countries above all, can be improved.

As the “empowering people. Award” also shares these objectives, Loster is pleased to be a member of the jury: “The empowering people. Award covers the great challenges of our century and provides solutions for issues revolving around water, nutrition, health, resources and many more. The diversity of innovative applications from 90 countries demonstrates not only the need for action, but also the great willingness of people to improve the situation. Now it is up to us to choose sustainable and multipliable approaches – for a better world”.
