UN-Habitat supports the “empowering people. Award“

October 02, 2012

UN-Habitat, the United Nations city agency, has now added its support to the “empowering people. Award“. As partners of the competition, the organization will aid Siemens Stiftung by spreading the word about the Award to potential entrants. It is Siemens Stiftung’s goal to receive applications from as many low-tech innovations as possible.  Not only should these inventions be implemented in regions where the supply of basic needs is limited but the entries will also form the basis for an extensive database which will link inventors to those working on the ground and make the inventions visible to potential investors.

UN-Habitat’s mission is to turn urbanization into a positive force for all humanity. For more than 30 years the organization has helped the urban poor by working for the transformation of cities into safer, healthier, greener places with better opportunities where everyone can live in dignity. UN-Habitat’s vision is for better planned cities without slums that are livable places for all, which do not impact on the environment or deplete natural resources. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, UN-Habitat works with organizations and partners at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society and the private sector to help build, manage, plan and finance sustainable urban development.

The foundation is delighted to have the support of such a renowned and valuable partner and looks forward to the continuing success of the Award.
