Not only individuals, teams and organizations can take part in the “empowering people. Award”. Companies who have developed a simple technical solution for improving basic supplies and services in developing countries and economies in transition are invited to participate as well.
Which criteria should companies meet in order to take part in the competition?

b. The company develops solutions or products that have already been implemented successfully to improve basic supplies and services in developing countries and economies in transition.
c. The company focuses strongly on creating jobs.
d. The company has committed itself to values such as fairness, social responsibility, and sustainable conduct.
e. The company is not a microfinancing institution, private equity fund, or deposit bank.
Could, for example, a solar-powered lamp or a purely portable ultrasound scanner of large companies, in other words, SMART products that are intended for use in local contexts, also be submitted?
The innovative achievements of large companies are, without doubt, a key driving force behind sustainable development. Their products help people to meet important basic needs. As a non-profit foundation, we have made it our goal to provide people with options with which they can apply their own strengths and self-initiative to earn an income, and all the while keep an eye on the holistic development of society as a whole. As the name of the competition, “empowering people. Award”, already indicates, the aim here is to enable people to find a broader application for their ideas using pooling effects. This is intended primarily for bottom-up innovators and those inventors who have perhaps founded a small company but have few resources available to them because, for example, they provide services to people who have no income and therefore cannot be seen as a market as such.
